Serious competition for 3 FAI Senior Women's award

The boys will be featuring in the majority of the gongs to be given out at the Irish soccer oscars this weekend but there is serious competition for the Ladies Senior Football player of the year award. The Football Association of Ireland with primary sponsor Three, will stage the 22nd '3' FAI International Football Awards on Sunday February 26, 2012 at RTÉ studios, Donnybrook, Dublin 4. RTÉ will televise the event live on RTÉ Two at 8.00pm. Emma Byrne of Arsenal and her gunners counterpart Niamh Fahey along with Denise O'Sullivan from Cork are all vying for the Ladies Senior category and ahead of the all star night, the trio underwent a makeover to prepare themselves for the big evening. Among the nominees for the mens awards are; Robbie Keane, Richard Dunne and Keith Andrews who have been nominated for the Senior International Player of the Year Award while Simon Cox, Darren O'Dea and Seamus Coleman have all been shortlisted for the Young Player of the Year Award. Former Derry City duo Eamon Zayed and James McClean, along with former Shamrock Rovers defender Pat Sullivan have all been given the nod as nominees for the Airtricity League Player of the Year Award. Three goals have been nominated for the Three International Goal of the Year, and again this year the public will be able to vote for their favourite goal by logging on to www.rte.ie.tv/competitions. The nominees are; Robbie Keane for his goal against Scotland in the Carling Nations Cup (29/05/11), Darron Gibson for his stunning strike against Wales last February (8/2/11) while Keith Andrews is nominated for his header against Estonia in the Euro 2012 play-off last November (11/11/11). The winner of the competition will collect a trip for two to Irelands final game before Euro 2012, in Budapest v Hungary on 4th June. Flights and 4* accommodation for two nights for two people, and two VIP match tickets. €500 spending money is also included. The nominations, which were chosen by a panel from the Soccer Writers' Association of Ireland, are divided into 18 categories. Among the awards being presented at the special ceremony, a former Republic of Ireland great will be inducted into the FAI's Hall of Fame, while there will also be a Special Merit Award, and an International Personality of the Year Award, all of which will be announced at the event.
